Maurice Nahabedian, MD was formerly a Professor of Plastic Surgery at Georgetown University and an Associate Professor of Plastic Surgery at Johns Hopkins University. His undergraduate and graduate degrees were from the University of California at Irvine. He completed a full residency in General Surgery in 1992. His plastic surgical residency and fellowship was completed at the Johns Hopkins Hospital in 1995. Following a brief period in private practice, Dr. Nahabedian joined the prestigious faculty at Johns Hopkins where he served from 1996 – 2005. At Johns Hopkins, he was the Director of the Center for Reconstructive and Aesthetic Surgery of the Breast. He is certified by the American Board of Plastic Surgery and is a member of the American Society of Plastic Surgeons, American College of Surgeons, American Association of Plastic Surgeons, and American Society for Reconstructive Microsurgery.

Dr. Nahabedian has conducted numerous clinical research projects, published extensively in the fields of breast reconstruction, breast reduction, and microsurgery, and presented his work at numerous local, national, and international meetings. His primary area of interest involves breast reconstruction with perforator flaps that include the DIEP, SGAP, and SIEA flaps. He also performs prosthetic reconstruction on a regular basis. Dr. Nahabedian is actively involved in developing and promoting many innovative strategies that includes nipple sparing mastectomy, oncoplastic surgery, and the use of acellular dermal matrices. He has performed over 1,000 breast reconstructions using flaps as well as over 600 reconstructions using implants. Dr. Nahabedian has published over 100 scientific manuscripts, prepared 34 book chapters, edited 5 textbooks, and delivered over 600 presentations on topics related to plastic surgery of the breast. Dr. Nahabedian is the current section editor for breast surgery with the Journal of Plastic and Reconstructive Surgery and also serves on the editorial boards of the Annals of Plastic Surgery and the Breast Journal. He is the co-chairman for three national symposia that include the Santa Fe Breast and Body Contouring Symposia, Complications in Plastic Surgery, and the Abdominal Wall Reconstruction Conference.

Dr. Nahabedian believes that there is no substitute for individualized care and treatment. Many of his former and current patients have made themselves available to his new patients as a means of facilitating the process from being a cancer victim to a cancer survivor.
